Group of visitors walking the Cerro El Peligro trail, guided by sanctuary staff, deep in the tropical dry forest

Immersive conservation experiences

El Sendero hacia
la libertad

11 immersion stations in the sanctuary. Each visit is a distinct chapter of the same journey.

What is The Trail to Freedom

An immersive experience, not a visit.

We walk the trails and paths of territorio Los Loros — on foot, on horseback, or in 4x4 vehicles — and those who come take an active part in returning freedom to rescued animals. They prepare food for parrots and macaws. They monitor the ones that have already flown free. They patrol the trails to protect them from hunters. They plant the trees that will shelter and feed the next generations returning to the forest.

The Trail to Freedom

What does it take to be free? A parrot needs companionship, the skills to survive, and an environment that supports it. Just like a human who wants to be free.

Alejandro Rigatuso · Founder and Director, Fundación Loros
