Open your wings with us! Volunteer Program of the Fundación Loros
At Fundación Loros we work toward a clear mission: the rehabilitation, release, and conservation of parrots and other psittacines. Our new Volunteer Experience Program is an open call to students, professionals, and wildlife enthusiasts to be part of a meaningful experience — walking alongside parrots on their path back to freedom.
Across different tracks, volunteers can take part in fieldwork, research, environmental education, and communication, bringing their time, knowledge, and commitment to conservation.
📍 The program runs at our reserve in Villanueva (Bolívar), 35 km from Cartagena de Indias.
From the Cartagena bus terminal, Fundación Loros is roughly 35 minutes away.
📅 Duration and format
The program runs from January 2 to April 2, 2026 (3 months).
Each participant must complete a minimum of 6 volunteer days at the sanctuary, which can be arranged around their availability:
-
6 consecutive days,
-
one day per week over 6 weeks, or
-
one day every two weeks across the 3 months.
Once you register, Fundación Loros will reach out to form groups and coordinate schedules based on each participant's preferences and availability.
👥 Groups and goals
Groups will be built around a specific goal, made up of at least 3 people who share similar interests or approaches within the program.
💰 Cost and expenses
Participation is free of charge.
Transport costs to the Foundation are the participant's responsibility.
📸 Final report and certification
At the end of the program, participants must produce a final report on the results of their work, including photos and videos that document the experience and their contributions.
A certificate of participation will be issued to everyone who completes all sessions and submits the final report.
