The Boy Who Stood Between the Sloth and the Dogs

By Alejandro Rigatuso, Fundador y Director de Fundación Loros

On September 2nd, 2025, the Fundación Loros team arrived to stay at a private residence when they stumbled upon a scene that was in nobody's plans: a sloth cornered, and a boy planted firmly between it and the household dogs. The child had acted alone, with that blend of instinct and courage that sometimes only children possess, and he already had his phone in hand, ready to call the foundation. Alejandro and the team reached the animal without delay. They gathered it carefully, settled it for transport, and set off on the road back. By the time dusk fell, the sloth was already at the Los Loros facilities, receiving the care it needed. A rescue without fanfare — the kind that begins with a simple gesture, a boy who refused to step aside, and ends well.

Alejandro Rigatuso · Fundador y Director de Fundación Loros

Alejandro Rigatuso arrived at Fundación Loros after years as Vice President of Growth Marketing at Toptal, bringing with him an unconventional perspective: he knows an animal is well by its eyes, "bright, wide open." Lorenzo, the first parrot released, recaptured several times and always set free to fly again, marked him forever. At dusk, around five-thirty, you'll find him at the Mirador de las Ciénagas or wandering around Cerro El Peligro, envisioning observation towers and hundreds of native parrots soaring over a reserve that an entire community calls their own.
